James M. Malone, of Tuscumbia, passed away Friday, May 13, 2016 at the age of 84. Visitation will be Monday, May 16, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The graveside service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at New Bethel Cemetery with Bro. Tom McDowell and Bro. Seth Hood officiating.
According to James Malone he was a farmer “plain and simple”. But he was much more than that. He was a loving and hardworking husband, father and “Pepa”. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He ran a sawmill, truck-farmed for many years and grew some of the best watermelons around. He built, established and ran Malone’s General Store for 36 years. His passion was music and he was involved in the local music scene for over 70 years. He was a welcoming and thoughtful neighbor, well-respected and an honorable man. He will be greatly missed.
James was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Hazel Henry Malone; parents, James Grady and Lillie Mae Malone; stepson, Mike Collins; daughter-in-law, Nancy Malone; grandchildren, Kevin Malone and Chastity Malone; brothers, John H., Edward Lee and Leonard Malone; and sister, Louise James.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Collins Malone; sons, Danny and Phillip Malone; stepson, Tim Collins; daughters, Marcia Kaye Kimbrough (Lee) and Anna Malone; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Tim Malone, Dennis Thrasher, Josh Kimbrough, Jace Kimbrough, Larry James and Quentin Hodge will serve as pallbearers.
