1868762_profile_picJames M. Blount, 88, of Huntsville, AL died on October 24, 2016 at his home after a long illness.

He was born in Huntsville on October 8, 1928. He was preceded in death by his son, Marvin Blount and is survived by his wife Bernice M. Blount, daughters Sharon Blount and Donna B. Conte and son-in-law, Jesse Conte, three grandsons, Nathanael, Jacob and Joseph Conte and sister, Georgia Staggs.

In 1951 James was drafted by the army and was stationed in Michigan for two years.James graduated from the University of Alabama  with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1964 and began a civil service career working in Systems Engineering on the Safeguard, Shilleleigh, Star Wars, Eris and Patriot Missile projects, to name a few.

James and Bernice were married on Thanksgiving Day, 1955 and were members of Holmes Street United Methodist Church for over 60 years. He was faithful to his Lord, his family and church.

James was the epitome of a family man, weaving his hobbies into family time as they hunted, fished and camped together when he and Bernice raised their kids together. He was known and loved by many as a strong man who could fix anything.  When asked how he was doing, he often replied “better than I deserve” which was a testimony to his thankfulness to the Lord for His great provision, grace and mercy.

Visitation will be at 1:00pm and a memorial service with be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, October 27 at Holmes Street United Methodist Church at 501 Holmes Avenue, Huntsville, AL. Graveside service following at Maple Hill Cemetery. Donations can be made in memory of James M. Blount to the Blount Hospitality House or the Holmes Street UMC Building Fund.
