James Kirkland “Red” Sandlin – Obituary

Funeral service for James Kirkland “Red” Sandlin, age 82, of Decatur, will be Friday, September 20, 2013, 2:00 p.m., at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Huey Shelton and Bro. Zack Terry officiating.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 19, 2013, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  interment iwll be in Bishop Cemetery.

Mr. Sandlin, who died Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at his residence, was born May 25, 1931, in Morgan County, to Joel Sandlin and Lily Mae Fletcher Sandlin.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Joel T. Sandlin; his sister, Bettye Faye Chaffin, and his son, Terry K. Sandlin.  Mr. Sandlin was a Baptist and a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War, after which he taught underwater demolition at West Point.  He was a former employee of Chemstrand, Fruehauf, Worthington, and he later retired from Amoco.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Marcile Terry Sandlin of Decatur; one son, Anthony J. Sandlin (Donna) of Decatur; one daughter, Tanya Brown (Bill) of Decatur; one daughter-in-law, Maria Burns Sandlin of Decatur; one grandson, Bly Sandlin of Decatur; two sisters, Carole Warnick (Larry) of Marion, and Pat Stewart (Tommy) of Lewisburg. TN.

Pallbearers will be nephews.
