James ‘Kip’ Madison Fowler III passed away peacefully at age 77 after a long illness on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. Kip was born in Marietta Georgia in 1941, and was preceded in death by his father, James “Mac” Fowler and mother, Elleen Davis Fowler.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie; daughter, Lynley Dungan, her husband, Mark, and their three children – Sydney, Graham, and Ainsley, all of Fort Worth, Texas; son, James “Jay” Fowler, his wife, Christina, and their daughter, Emory, of Decatur, Alabama; as well as brothers, Drayton and Larry Fowler; sisters, Starr Fowler and Shelly Robertson; and many nieces and nephews.
Kip graduated from Marietta High School, and continued his education receiving his B.S. from the University of Florida and a Ph.D. from Georgia Tech in electrical engineering. Kip and Marjorie have called Huntsville home since 1973. While in Huntsville, Kip worked as a government support contractor for Teledyne Brown Engineering, General Research Corporation, and Nichols Research Corporation (later acquired by Computer Sciences Corporation) providing technical analysis and assistance for U.S. Missile Defense.
He is well remembered as a staunch and loyal Florida Gator fan, who loved model trains, and spent thousands of hours on the tennis court. He was entirely devoted to family and friends, was passionate about understanding how the world works, and shared his great sense of humor and intellect with all who knew him.
Visitation will be from 12 to 1 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2018 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, with the memorial service immediately following in the chapel. Burial will be in Mountain View Park Cemetery in Marietta, Georgia on Saturday, July 28, 2018.
