JamesJames “Jim” Allen Anders Sr., 82, of Decatur passed away Monday, September 28, 2015 at his home. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 9 at Roselawn Funeral Home. Funeral will be Thursday, October 1, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the chapel with burial to follow in Roselawn Cemetery.
James was born December 23, 1932 in Hartselle. He was preceded in death by his son, James “Jimmy” Allen Anders Jr. and his parents, John Forest Anders and Alma Christine Murphree.
He is survived by his daughter, Phyllis Anders; three grandchildren, Kim Wynn, Kandye Vess and Kenny Martin; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Claude Anders and Bobby Anders; and five sisters, Doris Jernigan, Marietta Johnson, Patricia Pettus, Rachel Ransom and Gloria Brown.
James served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He had been a member in several clubs and associations including chaplain of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 4190, lifetime member of the American Legion Post 15, charter member of the Cahaba Shriners, a Brother of the Rising Son Masonic Lodge No. 29, member of Mary Lou Dancy No. 320 Order of the Eastern Star, lifetime member of B.P.O.E No. 655, Morgan County Honorary Deputy Sheriff, member of the Knights Templar, and member of Southside Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be members of Veterans of Foreign War Post 4190. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Cahaba Shrine Temple and American Legion Post 15.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Veterans of Foreign War Post 4190, 2309 Veterans Dr. SE, Decatur, AL 35601, American Legion Post 15 2607, US-31, Decatur, AL 35603 or Cahaba Shrine Temple, 1226 Blake Bottom Rd. NW, Huntsville, AL 35806.
