James Herschel Pickens – Obituary

James Herschel Pickens, 68, of New Johnsonville, Tennessee, died Friday, October 12, 2018 at Three Rivers Hospital. He was born September 3, 1950 in Florence. Mr. Pickens was a Vietnam Army veteran, member of the First United Pentecostal Church and avid fisherman.

Visitation will be held tonight from 5 to 8 and from 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday, October 17th at Humphreys County Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 17th in the Humphreys County Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Jerry Beasley officiating. Interment will follow in the Methodist Cemetery in New Johnsonville.

Survivors include his wife, Dessie Tidwell Pickens; sons, Reggie Dale Pickens (Tonya) of North Carolina, Steven Hamm of Camden, Tennessee; daughters, Samantha Burks (Randy), Amanda Shanks, Christy Hamm, all of New Johnsonville, Tennessee; sister, Wanda Robinson (Mike) of Muscle Shoals; 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by parents, Warren Pickens and Susie Owens Hayes; daughter, Regina Pickens.
