James Hector Bishop, 92, of Iuka, Mississippi, died Monday, March 11, 2013, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Iuka. Mr. Bishop was a very active member of the Iuka Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was also a former member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. He was a U. S. Army veteran of WWII, and an active member and former Commander of the Iuka VFW Post 4978. Mr. Bishop previously served as the Tishomingo County Sheriff and also the Tishomingo County Tax Assessor/Collector. He was also a very well-known local historian, and was often consulted on subjects pertaining to Tishomingo County history. Visitation is scheduled for 4:00 until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 13, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka, officiated by Rev. Jim Manley and Rev. Steve Nicholson. Interment will follow in Bishop Cemetery. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. He is survived by one daughter, Shirley Rutherford of Knoxville, TN; two step-daughters, Dianne Dean of Iuka, MS, and Gayle Callicutt of Memphis, TN; one brother, Harold T. Bishop of Nesbit, MS; two sisters, Emogene Nagle of Iuka, MS, and Earline Belue of Olive Branch, MS; one grandchild, Regina Pethel of Knoxville, TN; three step-grandchildren, Tommy Dean, Jr. of Frisco, TX, Ginger Millis of McKinney, TX, and Brad Callicutt of Memphis, TN; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin Pethel and William Pethel; and five step-great-grandchildren, Boone Millis, Luke Millis, Anna Claire Dean, Carson Dean, and Connor Dean. He was preceded in death by two wives, Lula Mae Scruggs Bishop and Loraine Jones Bishop; and his parents, Hector and Florence Whitaker Bishop.
