Funeral service for James Harold Spears, age 89, of Decatur will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2023, at Parkway Funeral Home Chapel with Paul Stowe and Jerry Scearce officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service. Interment will private.

Mr. Spears, who died Sunday, November 12, 2023, at NHC Healthcare Moulton, was born August 16, 1934, in Arkansas to Calvin L. Spears and Grace Madge Walling Spears. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert Lee Spears and Calvin Spears; sisters, Lorene Tyler and Virginia Callicott; son-in-law, William Dwight Free; and grandson, Benjamin Free. He served as pastor for Temple Baptist Church in Limestone County for more than 30 years. Mr. Spears was also a self-employed flooring installer.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnne (Cowan) Spears; son, James Vann Spears (Lori); daughters, Pamela Jane Newman (Larry) and Amanda Gail Stowe (Paul); two brothers, Bill Spears and Jerry Spears; one sister, Thelma Jean Post; eight grandchildren, Greta Danielle Howell (Matthew), Holly Michelle Talley (Jason), Joshua Grant Free (Mindy); Meagan Amanda Snyder (Timothy), Brooke Emily Millsaps (Jonathan), Casey Ashton Smith (Ronald, III), Brett Morgan Stowe (Brittni Jo), and Kylie McKenzie Wiginton (Paiton); 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Matt Howell, Jason Talley, Josh Free, Tim Snyder, Jonathan Millsaps, Paiton Wiginton, and Buddy Smith.
