James Hairl “Poss” Bates – Obituary

Mr. James Hairl “Poss” Bates, age 52, of Scottsboro, passed away Friday, March 22, 2019 surrounded by his family after an extended illness. “Poss” as he was affectionately known by most was born on February 27, 1967 in Scottsboro. Poss loved hunting, fishing, and Alabama football. He was a lifelong construction worker and truly a jack of all trades.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Scottsboro Funeral Home with Bro. Joe David Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Kennamer Cemetery in Woodville. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Kristy Bates; daughter, Alison Bates (Sean Cochran); grandchildren, Wyatt and Brynley Cochran, and Hunter Clark, all of Scottsboro; brother, Howard “Scooter” Bates (Mary) of Anderson, AL.; sisters, Anita Bates, Andrea Callaham (Tim) of Scottsboro, and Cindy Edgil (Eric) of Florence, AL; several very close nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Telford “Ted” Bates; mother, Virginia Mitchell; grandparents, Jimmy and Mildred Bates and Frank and Mary Holderfield.
