James Grady Morgan, 78, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point following a brief illness. He was born on August 1, 1944 in Monroe County to Nelson Grady and Liga Mae Tubb Morgan. Jimmy graduated Hatley High School in 1962 and then served in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Okinawa and Vietnam during the war. He married the former Sarah Johnston in 1968. Jimmy earned a degree in psychology from Mississippi State University and worked for 30 years with the Mississippi Employment Security Commission. He enjoyed quail hunting, fishing, and race cars. After his retirement, he loved to play golf with his buddies but more than anything he loved being with his family especially his grandchildren. He attended Hatley Missionary Baptist Church and was member of the J.A. Mayfield Masonic Lodge #165.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Kevin Crook officiating. Burial will follow in the Hatley Cemetery.
In addition to his wife, Sarah Morgan, he is survived by his son, Jim Morgan (Jessica) of Hatley; two daughters, Michelle Powell (Eddie) of Tupelo and Heather Williams (Chuck) of Tupelo; his sister, Patsy Greenhill of Amory; grandchildren Trey Morgan (Anna) , Bella Grace Powell, Lilly Williams, Grady Williams, Silas Williams, Paige Horne, and MaKayla Horne; great grandchildren, William Grady Morgan and Hadley Brooke Lusk ; a host of nieces and nephews and numerous close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Wayne Morgan.
Pallbearers will be Sam Carpenter, Tim Howell, Johnny Maxey, John Robinson, Chuck Williams, and Eddie Powell. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Lawrence and Larry Tartt.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the service time.
