James Gordon Goins Sr., 91, of Tuscumbia, AL found his peace and comfort on January 4, 2024. He was born December 31, 1932 to Joe and Sally Goins.

Visitation will be Saturday January 6, 2024, 12-2 at Colbert Memorial with funeral to follow. Officiating is Bro. Eddie Mitchell.

Gordon, or Pop to those he loved best, lived life to the fullest. He was a very hard-working man. He joined the Air Force in 1951 where he proudly served for four years, and found his love of travel. He was honorably discharged in 1955 and returned home, where he raised his three children and later met the love of his life Christene, who he lovingly called Chris. During his lifetime he did a little of everything from chicken houses to building houses, flea market trades, and then opening L&R Grocery with Chris, Larry and Regina. Gordon loved to fish, in his younger years hunt, and he loved to have the grandchildren around as often as possible. He was always so happy to show them how to fish, hunt, ski, tube, garden, build things, or just about anything they showed an interest in. Well into his 70’s he could be found shooting hoops with the kids. Gordon could fix anything, build anything, and just generally make whatever we needed to happen, happen. He and Chris loved to travel, and did as much of it as they could once retired. He bought an RV and they traveled all over the US, wintering in Florida, three month adventures to Alaska and Canada, and visiting as many mountain ranges or fishing holes as they could find. And now they have been reunited in heaven where we can only imagine the sights they see.

Gordon is survived by his daughters, Yvetta (Albert) Harris, Ninka (Frankie) Elliott; son, James Jr. (Deb) Goins; stepson, Larry (Regina) Strickland; grandchildren, Wayne (Karen) Harris, Josh (Ester) Harris, Cindy Elliott, John (Alicia) Elliott, Dr. Leah (Seneca) Anderson, Leisa (Scott) McCullough, Sam (Haley) Strickland, James Goins III; 14 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Chris Goins; his parents, Joe and Sally Goins; and his brothers and sisters.

His pallbearers will be John Elliott, Sam Strickland, James Goins III, Brennan Harris, Chandler Harris, and Nick Harris.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Special thank you to Sonia Grant and Cottage of the Shoals for all the love and care.

Colbert Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
