“World War II Veteran Dies
on Independence Day”
James “Gene” Moon, age 91
of Huntsville passed away
peacefully on July 4, 2018.
Gene was born Dec. 5, 1926,
to the late James and Katie
Moon. He graduated Lincoln
High School in 1944. Mr.
Moon was a life-long resident
of Madison County and proud
World War II veteran.
Gene entered the U.S. Navy
Dec. 7, 1944. He served as
a Morse Code transmitter
aboard U.S. Navy Destroyers,
USS Abbot, USS John D. Henley,
and USS Klondike.
Mr. Moon is preceded in
death by his wife of 70 years,
Geraldine Moon.
He is survived by nieces; Sharon
Rose Linsky, Diana Ings,
Sherry Calvert, Diane Hill
York, and Nancy Stinnett Hill
and nephews; Martin Towery,
Brent Towery, Bryan Towery
and Dee Hill.
Visitation is Monday, July 9,
2018,10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
at Berryhill Funeral Home followed
by the funeral service
at 11:00 a.m. officiated by
Chaplain Spencer Thompson.
Burial will be in Maple Hill
Cemetery.
