James F. Jilek, a beloved son, brother, and friend passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026, in Falkville, Alabama, at the age of 79.
Jim was born on October 21, 1946, in Appleton, WI. Jim graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree and obtained his master’s degree in 1974. He went on to work for many Defense Contractors throughout his long career as an Infrared Systems Engineer. His last position was on Redstone Arsenal, and he enjoyed his work and his coworkers so much that he worked as long as he possibly could, well into his 70’s.
Jim owned three Harley Davidson motorcycles and enjoyed going to Bike Rally’s in Sturgis, SD, and Dayton Beach, FL. Although Jim never married or had children, he was adopted into our family many years ago. He also leaves behind a community of wonderful friends and neighbors.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Otto F. Jilek, and Inez Catherine (Buchholz) Jilek, as well as his siblings, Ronald Frederick “Fritz” Jilek, and Mary Elaine (Jilek) Roberts.
A visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at Huntsville Memory Gardens.
