James Elworth Chamlies, 79, died Monday, March 21, 2022, with his family by his side.
James was born September 26, 1942, in Grant, Alabama to Oliver and Audrey Chamlies. James loved working with his father in their family machine shop and spending time with his favorite friends and cousins.
James married Joan Sorter on February 5, 1982. They were each other’s lifelong companions and inseparable friends.
James opened his local body shop, Lake City Motors, in 1980. This business became a community staple for automotive repairs. James and Joan were also very involved with supporting community organizations through Lake City Motors.
James was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family in this setting. His other hobbies included spending time with his dog, Castro, watching Nascar racing and cooking for his family.
James is survived by his wife Joan along with his daughters, Jaimie (Trent) and Beverly (Jamie); granddaughters, Brianna (Brody) and Bailey; great-granddaughter, Bristol; and many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother Audrey Chamlies, father, Oliver Chamlies, and sister Brenda “Sue” Smith.
James will especially be remembered as an amazing friend, honest businessman and above all a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-granfather.
