James Edward Milner of Decatur, AL, passed away on November 7, 2025, at the age of 87. He was born in New Market, AL on November 23, 1937, to Edward McDonnell Milner and Florence Rodgers Milner. He graduated from Huntsville High School in 1956. He served in the United States Navy from 1956-1966.

Upon returning from military service, James graduated from Athens College. He later received his MA and E.Ds. from the University of Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Marilyn Milner, and his daughter, Sue Ellen Milner.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Sue Walker, Milner; and cousins, Stanley Rodgers (Wynn), Christopher Rodgers (Kimberly), Robert Rodgers (Emily), Wesley Rodgers (Hannah), Kenneth Rodgers, and Gus Rodgers (Roberta).

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at First United Methodist Church, Decatur. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery in Decatur with the Rev. Alex Beaube officiating.
