James Edward CorbettMr. James Edward Corbett, Jr., age 84, of Vernon, AL, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, MS.

James Edward was born on September 17, 1937, in Lamar County, AL, to the late James “Jimmy” Edward and Margie Elliott Corbett.  He served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of Oakes Chapel Baptist Church.  He was a retired carpenter, and enjoyed spending time with his family, building cabinets and houses, hunting, fishing, and camping.  James Edward was a loyal and loving husband, father, and friend.  He will be greatly missed by his family.

James Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Margie Corbett; one sister, Willie Quinn Vail; and one brother, Bennie Ray Corbett.

Funeral services will be Friday, September 9, at 2:00 PM, at the Oakes Chapel Baptist Church, with Bro. Bryan Wilson and Bro. Joe Moseley officiating.  Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.  Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 at the church prior to the service.

Active pallbearers will be Jesse Corbett, Kevin West, Harold Partain, Larry Vail, Joey Vail, and John Smith.  Honorary pallbearers will be John Partain, Leon Hardy, Landon Hardy, and Hubert Butler.

James Edward is survived by his wife of 61 years, Kitty Hardy Corbett, of Vernon, AL; one son, Mike Corbett, of Vernon, AL; one daughter, Kathy (Danny) West, of Vernon, AL; three grandchildren, Kevin (Katie) West, Blake West, and Jesse Corbett, all of Vernon, AL; three great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Kinslee, and Kenna West; one sister, Mary Nell (John) Partain; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
