James Edward Adams – Obituary

Master Sergeant Retired James Edward Adams passed away peacefully Sunday at his home at the age of 79.

The beloved son of the late Clarence and Jeannie Madden Adams, Master Sergeant Adams was born in Leighton, Alabama and was a 1957 graduate of Sterling High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who retired following 25 years of dedicated service, and was also retired from Civil Services at Ft. Benning, Georgia after 20 years of service as a Contract Administrator. He obtained his master’s degree in education from Troy State University and was a member of the Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Triple Nickel Parachute Club, American Legion Post 400, and was a Prince Hall Mason. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Mrs. Annie Flint Adams and five siblings, Robert Adams, Annie Thompson, Mary B. Darby, Gwendolyn F. Adams and Frankie Ray.

Survivors include two sons, Steven Adams and Roderick Reynolds (Traci); two daughters, Stephanie Z. Adams and Sylvia Adams-Epley (Robert); one grandchild, Yasmir Reynolds; a great grandchild, Makayla Reynolds; two sisters, Camilla King and Janie Holyfield (Freeman); a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

The Homegoing Celebration for Master Sergeant Adams will be held Friday, April 6, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor J. H. Flakes, III officiating. The interment will be held Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11:00 p.m. CST at the Oakwood Cemetery in Sheffield, AL. Condolences may be expressed at progressivefuneralhome.com.
