James (Eddie) Smith of Athens, Alabama passed away on Sunday January 5, 2025. Eddie was born on December 22, 1957, in Lester, Alabama to Jimmy Gene Smith and Sarah Shelton Smith. He grew up in Athens and graduated from Athens High School. Eddie received his Bachelor’s Degree from Auburn University. He worked as a radio announcer at WKAC in Athens in addition to over twenty years as a civilian DOD contractor as a video photographer, director, producer and provided narration on many films, videos and commercials during his career.
He is survived by his wife Pam Pendleton Smith of Athens, AL; brother Rodney (Pam) of Minor Hill, TN; sister in law Debbie Pendleton of Montgomery, AL; nieces Erica (Ryan) Griffin of Minor Hill, TN; Bailey (Jason) Gregory of Athens, AL; John Gatling (Rachel) of Morgantown, WV; and great nephew Gunner Griffin, great nieces Avaline and Jayde Gregory and Huntley Griffin.
Eddie loved to tell a good story, be an entertainer and cheering for his favorite teams – Auburn University, Pittsburgh Steelers and the Nashville Predators.
Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be Thursday, January 9th, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday from 9-10:45 AM at the funeral home. Burial at Hester Chapel Cemetery.
