James E. Long passed away Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Diversicare in Tupelo after an extended illness. He was 88 years old. James was born February 25, 1938 in Calhoun County, the son of James W. Long and Beulah Mae Gilbert Long. For many years he worked as a skilled mechanic for the Corp of Engineers. James also had an artistic side and could often be found woodworking or playing his base guitar. He was married to his best friend and soul mate for 59 years, Mary M. Long, who passed away in 2015.
James leaves behind his son, Glen Long and wife, Julie, of Tupelo; grandchildren, Justin Street of Tupelo, Mary Glen Long of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Jenny Long Rodriguez of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Janna Long of West Point; two great-grandchildren, Lilly Boyd and Mia Rodriguez; and two sisters, Frances Bishop of Saltillo and Addie Holley of Hernando.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Beulah Long; his wife, Mary; daughter, Janet Street; grandson, Caleb Long; and three sisters, Brenda, Dorothy, and Annie.
A graveside service will be held to remember James at 11 a.m., Monday, June 8, 2026 at Campbelltown Cemetery with Rev. Blake Buchanan officiating. Pegues Funeral Directors is honored to assist with the arrangements.
