James Duwayne Martindale – Obituary

James Duwayne Martindale age 87 of Athens, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Martindale was born November 23, 1928 in Walnut, MS.

Services will be Sunday, August 7, 2016 2:00 p.m., at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Bro George Whitten officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, August 6, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens.

Preceded in death by his father, John Doss “J.D.” Martindale; mother, Lillian Martindale; sisters, Oneil Waller and Johnaye Alexander.

Survived by his wife, Betty Jean Martindale of 55 years; two sons, William Allen Martindale and wife, Julie and Clarence Merrill Martindale; two grandsons, Justin Allen Martindale and wife, Liz and Ricky Duwayne Martindale; great-step-grandson, Jeffrey Alexander; great-granddaughter, Kallie Martindale; nephews, nieces and two great-nieces.

Mr. Martindale was honorably retired as Senior Chief Commissary man in the United States Navy after 32 years. Having received the National Defense Service Medal and Victory Medal, along with seven good conduct awards while enlisted. After his service in the Navy he later retired after 20 years with the United States Department of Agriculture.

Pallbearers will be Justin Martindale, David Waller, Johnny Baugher, Malcolm Schrimsher, Timmy Baugher and Pat Preston.
