James Carson Barrett

Mr. James Carson Barrett, age 76, of Union Grove, Alabama passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at his home. James was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 15, 1947, son of Johnny Clarence Barrett and Dorothy Williams Barrett. His family moved from Miami, Florida to Union Grove, Alabama in the 1950’s where he resided for the remainder of his life. James was married to Sarah Sue Huskey Barrett, who passed away August 2013. He was a 1965 graduate of Arab High School. James was employed by AT&T where he worked as an Electronic Technician and he also served in the Alabama Army National Guard. He and Sue owned and operated two local businesses: Arab Farmers Exchange and Irene’s Restaurant in Morgan City. James was a true John Deere enthusiast and was often found on his Gator taking care of the family farm. He enjoyed every minute with his children, especially the time he spent coaching their softball teams. He was an avid fan of Crimson Tide Athletics. In his later years, nothing brought him more joy than his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Family members left behind to cherish their memories of James include: daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and Chad Ellis and Christy and Si Sexton; grandchildren, Jordan Bolding (Nick), Courtney Sorensen (Destin) and Carson Ellis (Payton Smith); great grandchildren, Cooper Bolding, Charleigh Bolding, Sarah-Kate Bolding, Rylee Sorensen and Noah Sorensen; brothers, Johnny Barrett, Bruce Barrett (Brentis) and Tommy Barrett.
Preceding James in death include: wife, Sarah Sue Barrett; parents, Johnny and Dorothy Barrett; and sister, Teeny Barrett.

A graveside memorial service for James will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 1, 2023 at the Barrett Family Cemetery in Union Grove, AL. Brother Clint Maze will officiate. Pallbearers escorting James to his final resting place will be Chad Ellis, Si Sexton, Nick Bolding, Destin Sorensen and Carson Ellis. Cooper Bolding will serve as Honorary Pallbearer.
The family will meet and welcome friends and guests after the graveside service.
