Funeral service for James C. “Jack” Griffis, Jr., age 87, of Decatur, will be Friday, May 13, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church (Lawrence County) with Rev. Jeffrey Griffis and Rev. Harold Newberry officiating, and Shelton Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service. Interment and graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m., Highland Memorial Gardens, Bessemer.
Mr. Griffis, who died Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at his residence, was born January 6, 1929, in Birmingham, to James Claude Griffis, Sr. and Catherine Hassler Griffis. He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Griffis, and his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty Grubbs Griffis of Decatur; one son, Jeffrey Griffis (Debra) of Moulton; one daughter, Sharron Jeffreys of Williamsburg, VA; one brother, Jerry H. Griffis (Charlotte) of Moody; one sister, Margaret Louise Landis (Jim) of Leeds; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mark Montgomery, Otis Rainwater, Scotty Rencher, Brian Gray, Rook Hill, and Larry Green.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Faith Baptist Church, 3979 County Road 434, Moulton, AL 35650.
