James Bobby Farris, 75, passed away Sunday November 16, 2014 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Bobby was born to Harold and Burvil (Grammer) Farris of Mantachie. He graduated from Mooreville High School and entered the National Guard at the age of 17. Bobby transferred to the United States Army where he served in the 20th Engineer Brigade. He served in Korea, as well as, multiple tours in Vietnam. Bobby later retired from the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant and was the recipient of the following citations: Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, Driver and Mechanic Badge, Expert Rifleman Badge, Korea Defense Service Medal and Republic of Vietnam Honor Medal, Second Class.
After his military service, he worked with Lee and Itawamba County Sheriff’s Department, as well as, the Fulton City Police Department. Later, he worked as an Environmental Engineer for Browning Ferris Industries, Inquip and Recon.
After his multiple retirements, he enjoyed working on his farm and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Bobby was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Farris (Loden) of Fulton; siblings and their spouses, Lonnie and Betty West of Mantachie, C.W. and Betsy Farris of Tremont, Johnny and Meredith Farris of Mantachie; children, Billy Wayne and Anita Farris of Mantachie, James and Tonya Lee of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Bryan and Telisha Simmons of Fulton, Chris and Priscilla Farris of Fulton, Bradly and Alisha Reynolds of Fredericksburg, Virginia; 12 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren. Special niece, Tammy Foster. Special friends Adam and Angie Palmer of Fulton, Ricky Powell of Pensacola, FL and Dan Tiltgres of Chicago, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Burvil Farris and a son, Dale Chism.
Pallbearers will be Randy Tucker, Cody Tucker, Adam Palmer, and Craig West.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Ricky Powell, Dan Tiltgres, Jim Edwards and Dominique Namy.
