James Arthur “Toad” Overton, 78, of Houston passed away on December 23, 2014 in Winfield.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 26, 2014 from 12-2pm at Nichols Funeral Home in Double Springs, where services will be held at 2pm. Reverends George Whitten and Chris Meador will officiate. Burial will be in Barnett Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Overton was born on May 14, 1936 in Double Springs, AL. He was a farmer and brick mason with a keen sense of humor. He loved fishing, sitting under shade trees, and riding over his farm in his pick-up trucks, but he loved all of these things more when enjoying them with his family. Through hard work and perseverance, he and his wife, Alice, raised seven children.
He is survived by his sons, James “Bam” Overton Jr., Jerome Avery (Anna) Overton, Jeremy Adrian Overton; daughters, Joyce Ann Overton (Morris) McLeroy, Jennifer Overton (Bart) Seymour, Jolene Abagail Overton (John) Noblett; sister, Margaret Millis; he was Paw Paw to 9 grandchildren, Levi (Lindsey) Overton, Holley and Hannah Noblett, Logan Overton, Jesse and Jordan McLeroy, Haley Overton, Spencer and Morgan Overton; and 3 great grandchildren, Emma Grace, Carter and Kale Overton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Wren Payne Overton; mother, Myrtle Ruth Overton; and daughter, Jayne Annette Overton. He will be loved and missed by all.
