James Anthony Edwards – Obituary

James Anthony Edwards, 74, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018 at his residence in Amory after a long illness. Mr. Edwards was born to the late Glennard and Anniie Lee Huffman Edwards on August 27, 1944. He honorably served his country in the U. S. Army with service in Germany and in the Vietnam Conflict. Anthony was born in the Tater Hills Community of Lee County and lived here most of his lifer before moving to Amory 4 years ago. A member of the Shepard’s Church, Anthony’s working career including over 35 years at Super Sagless where he was a supervisor and 10 years at Stone Contanier before retiring. A simple but passionate man, he loved sports of all types and was especially supportive of the Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed camping when younger, enjoyed visiting the Amish people in their community in Pontotoc County and esp. loved the butter they made.
A service, with military honors, will be held at 11 AM Friday, Sept. 7, 2018 at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Dennis Smithey officiating. Bill Curtis will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in the New Hope Cemetery in the Tater Hills. Visitation will be from 5 PM-7PM today and from 10 AM-service time on Friday. Holland Funeral Directors is honored to be serving the family.
Anthony is survived by his only son, Robert Edwards and his wife, Shawn of Amory; 4 grandchildren, Bryan Edwards, Austin Edwards, Hannah Edwards and Josh Godwin. A sister, Kathy Fikes of Skyline. Several cousins and other family members. He was preceded in death by a son, David Edwards in 2002 and a sister, Sylvia Barnett.
