James Alan Burks, 69, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023 in Aberdeen. He was born on January 26, 1954 in Amory to James M. and Virginia Owings Burks. A 1972 graduate of Amory High School, he worked for 32 years at Kerr-McGee and later for Eutaw Construction before retiring. Alan was an avid hunter and fisherman. He liked watching NASCAR, attending stock car racing, and was an NHRA fan. He was a member of the Central Grove Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Danny Carl Burks officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Connie Wilson Burks of Hamilton; daughter, Lauren Brauer (Elliot) of New Hope; two brothers, Phil Burks (Tammy) of Cason and Ray Burks (Amy) of Belmont; three grandchildren, Ellie Ann Brauer, Everett James Brauer, and Russell Olan Brauer; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Terry Holman, Scott Seales, John Dukeminier, Rusty Murphy, Don Kelly Stewart, and Kenny Barrett.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from noon until service time.
