Jackie Van Allen was born on March 6, 1946, in Huntsville, Alabama, and passed peacefully from this life on October 1, 2026, at his home in South Huntsville, surrounded by his family.
Jackie was a loving father and a good man who devoted his life to his family, his work, and the people he cared about. He will be remembered for the life he built, the challenges he overcame, and the many memories he made with those who loved him.
Jackie grew up in Huntsville and attended Butler High School. During his 10th-grade year, his father moved to Destin, Florida, and Jackie went with him. Because of the move, Jackie left school and went to work helping his father at Bart’s Bottling Company. Jackie soon returned to Alabama and, in 1967, joined the Alabama Army National Guard. During his military service, he earned his GED, completing the education he had left behind when he moved to Destin.
Jackie continued his education throughout his life. On May 27, 1994, he graduated Cum Laude from Calhoun Community College with an Associate of Science degree in Business Administration.
Jackie was first married to Ginger Cagle, and from that marriage came his oldest son, Darren Moore (Karen). He later married Berta Allen on August 29, 1967, and they shared their lives together until her passing in 2005. Later in life, Jackie found a special companionship with Bobbye DeArmond, who preceded him in death in 2023.
In 1969, Jackie began his career with Dunlop Tire in Huntsville, working as a tire builder. He eventually moved into the Dunlop Credit Union, where he became manager. When the Dunlop Credit Union became part of Family Security Credit Union, Jackie continued his career with Family Security. He retired from Dunlop in 2002 and ultimately retired from Family Security Credit Union in 2022, concluding a career spanning more than five decades in the tire and credit-union industries.
Jackie is survived by his three children, Darren Moore (Karen), Robert Allen (Tammy), and Jason Allen (Sherry).
He is also survived by his siblings, Gloria Johnson (George), Debbie Amerson (Tommy), Mickey Allen (Gale), and Kenneth “Buck” Allen. He was preceded in death by his sister, Wanda Dunn.
Jackie is survived by his grandchildren, Hunter (Shelby), Laurel (Jacob), Leah, Jessalynn, Kayla, Noah, Kamryn, Jada (Hunter), and Kingston. He was preceded in death by his grandchildren, Brooke (2009), Lindsi (2004), and Robert Jr. (2003).
Jackie is also survived by his four great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Jackie was a lifelong University of Alabama fan and proudly followed the Crimson Tide, especially enjoying attending Alabama games. He also had a love for collecting pocket knives, a hobby he enjoyed throughout his life.
After the passing of his beloved companion, Bobbye DeArmond, in 2023, Jackie became involved with the Senior Center of Huntsville, where he found friendship, companionship, and a renewed enjoyment of life. He especially enjoyed the center’s overseas trips, traveling to new places and making memories with the friends he made along the way.
Jackie will be remembered by his family, friends, and all those who shared in the many chapters of his life. His journey—from leaving school in the 10th grade, to earning his GED through military service, continuing his education and graduating Cum Laude, building a career at Dunlop, becoming a credit-union manager, and continuing to work until 2022—reflected his determination, strong work ethic, and commitment to his family.
