Jack Welcher – Obituary

The funeral service for Jack Welcher, age 85 of Coleta Valley, will be held at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Clifton McWhorther officiating. Burial will follow in the Clay County Memory Gardens.

 

Mr. Welcher passed away on Friday, May 18, 2018 at the Clay County Hospital. A native of Coosa County and former resident of Alexander City, he moved to Clay County in 1954. Mr. Welcher was a millwright for Sterling Lumber and Supply for over 44 years and had been a member of the Coleta Valley Hunting Club. He enjoyed yard work, gardening and keeping busy.

 

Mr. Welcher is survived by his wife of 65 years, Allean Pitts Welcher of Coleta Valley; one sister, Mary Frances McDaniel (Mike) of Alexander City and one brother, Roy Welcher of Dixon, Tennessee; 13 nieces; 11 nephews; and a special great-nephew, Colin Wesley.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents: Willis Welcher and Sara Frances Seymour Welcher.

 

Pallbearers will be Colin Wesley, Wendell Knight, Randy Newman, Donnie Kelly, Dr. Dwain Rush and Dan Gibson. Mr. Welcher’s nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.

 

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 20, 2018 from 11:30 a.m. until service time at 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
