Jack W. Tankersley – Obituary

JackMr. Jack W. Tankersley, 83, a resident of Vestavia Hills, Alabama and a former resident of Florence, passed away Friday, March 28, 2014 at UAB Hospital. He was a longtime member of Highland Baptist Church of Florence where he served as an usher for fifteen years, and a member of Lakeside Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL for the past year. He served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Gilbert Islands aircraft carrier in the Korean War.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 30, 2014 from 12:30 – 2 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home in Florence, AL. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.

Mr. Tankersley was preceded in death by his parents, William Cicero and Ruby Patterson Tankersley.

He is survived by his wife Jean Coffman Tankersley of 59 years; sons, Craig Tankersley and wife Martha of Birmingham, AL, Mark Tankersley of Brandon, MS, Jack Thomas “Tom” and fiancée, Kim Merkl of Marco Island, Florida; grandchildren, Jack, Daniel, Alex, Joe, and Alyssa Tankersley.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Highland Baptist Church of Florence or Lakeside Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL.

Sincere gratitude is expressed to the Palliative Care unit at UAB Hospital.
