Jack Lindell Matheney, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, August 1, 2025, at the age of 88.

Born in Union City, Tennessee, on April 9, 1937, Jack was the son of Mr. Fred Hurl Matheney and Mrs. Mildred Inez Burress Matheney.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Albert (Jim) Matheney. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Sandra Sue Beard Matheney; his children, Jack Thomas ‘Tom’ Matheney (Karen), and Jason Lindell Matheney (Pamela); and five grandchildren, Connor Hiott Matheney, Davis James Matheney, Eleanor Adelaide Matheney, Sydney Anna Matheney Power (Brheady), and Emma Grace Matheney.

After graduating from Union City High School in 1955, he attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering. He began working at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in 1962 and served 34 years as an electronics expert working on various projects to include the Apollo and Space Shuttle programs. After retiring from NASA, he continued his support to the space industry as a contractor with Jacobs Sverdrup until retiring fully in 2011.

Jack had a strong faith and was an active member of Latham United Methodist Church for 50 years where he taught Sunday School and served on various committees and boards and greatly enjoyed his work with the United Methodist Men. A loving husband, devoted father, and beloved grandfather, Jack will be missed dearly.

The family would like to express a special thanks to the caregivers at Brookdale at Home for the exceptional care Jack has received over the last year.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 10, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Latham Church, 109 Weatherly Rd SE, Huntsville, AL 35803. The memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm.
