Jack Dempsey Wood – Obituary

JackJack Dempsey Wood, age 90, a lifelong resident of Russellville, peacefully passed away at his home on Friday, March 07, 2014

Mr. Wood was a World War II Army veteran, a member of Grace Life Church of the Shoals and a retired U.S. Postal Worker.

The visitation will be 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 09, 2014 at Spry Memorial Chapel, with the funeral following at 2:00 p.m. Burial with military honors will be at DeVaney Cemetery.

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Pauline Brown Wood; son, Art (Gwen) Brown; daughters, Ginger (Robert) Wilson, Nan (Ben) Stephens; grandchildren, Jackson (April) Mayfield, Arlan (Christina) Wilson, Mirandy (David) McGill, Christi (Chris) Tyra, Alex Brown; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John & Annie Wood; siblings, Elizabeth Wood Lucas, Vera Wood Robinson, Berta Martin Robinson, Lois Wood, Billy Wood, James “Cotton” Wood.

The pallbearers will be Jimmy Martin, Leland Sneed, Jimmy Murphree, Bobby Martin, Jack Bowen, and Randy Lindsey. The honorary pallbearers will be lifelong friend, Cecil Langcaster, nephew, Larry DeArman, and Mr. Wood’s Sunday School class.

The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Keller Hospice, with special thanks to Fran Renfro, Grace Gunn, and Diane Williams. Also, loving thanks to Ruth Grissom, Jack’s niece, for the special love and care she has shown over the past several months.

Spry Memorial Chapel assisted the family.
