Jack Delton Goodman Jack Delton Goodman, 89 of Athens, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020 at home. Dr. Goodman was born December 16, 1930 in Lauderdale County to Andrew Butler Goodman and Myrtle Howell Goodman.

There will be a private visitation and service for Dr. Goodman due to the State Health Order.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Ann Goodman; sons, Mark Goodman (Joan) and David Goodman (Brandi); daughters, Amelia McAllister (Bobby) and Elizabeth Adams (Jeff); stepsons, Steven Crosby (Cathy), Vincent Crosby (Kasi) and Jason Crosby; grandchildren, Candace Powers (Cheston), Mason Goodman (Sarah), Lauren Crouch (Dagan), Jared Winton, Kristin Skinner (Jimmy), Clay Goodman (Miranda), Carson Green (Luke), Jordan Fielding, Hunter Fielding, Sean McAllister (Mary), Seth McAllister, Collin Adams, Blake Adams (Lilly), Ryan Crosby and Madrix Crosby; great grandchildren, Preslee Powers, Avery Powers, Olivia Skinner, Mary Thomas Green, Brecken Goodman and Henry McAllister; sister, Robbie Griggs.

Preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter and 5 siblings.

Dr. Goodman was a 1961 graduate of Auburn Veterinary School of Medicine. He practiced Veterinary Medicine for 53 years. He was a Veteran of the Air Force where he served from 1950 until 1954. He was a Lifelong member of the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association (ALVMA) where he served as president from 1982 until 1983 and was a member of the board for many years. He received the ALVMA Veterinarian of the Year Award in 2006. He was also awarded the ALVMA Service Award in 1995 and 2017 and the ALVMA Distinguished Service Award in 2013. Dr. Goodman was a member of the Limestone Veterinary Association. Other notable attributes include, Jaycee Civitan, Chairman of the Sesquicentennial Celebration in 1969 as well as a Rotary Member. He was a member of Cedar Plains Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Falkville, AL where he also served as a church board member. Dr. Goodman was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, President of the Sportsmans Club, President of the Athens Humane Society and President of the Athens PTA. He was the President of the Hunter Jumper Association of AL. He was the US Pony Club District Commissioner and was a Charter member of the Athens College Foundation. Dr. Goodman was also a member of the Mooreland Hunt Club and Full Cry Hounds. Other Honors and Awards include the Up John award, Pat Hoyle Sportsmanship award for Proficiency in clinical medicine and the Outstanding Young Man of Athens, AL.

Dr. Goodman was a lifelong horseman, breeder and trainer of Thoroughbred horses. Most of which were used in the pursuit of his favorite pastime, foxhunting. He fox hunted in the U.S., Canada and Australia. Dr. Goodman enjoyed breeding and raising various breeds of dogs. But above all else, spending time with his family was what he enjoyed most.

Pallbearers are Mason Goodman, Cheston Powers, Dagan Crouch, Jared Winton, Jimmy Skinner and Luke Green. Honorary pallbearers are Steven Crosby, Clay Goodman, Jordan Fielding and Hunter Fielding.

A Memorial Service for Dr. Goodman will be held at a later date.
