J.W. Kellum, 91, resident of Tiplersville, passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, December 23, 2022 surrounded by family at Diversicare Health & Rehabilitation Center in Ripley.
Funeral Services honoring the life of Mr. Kellum will be at 2 PM Tuesday, December 27 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Doc Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Falkner.
Mr. Kellum was born October 16, 1931 in Alcorn County, the son of the late Walter and Etta Tatum Kellum. He was a long time member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Secretary/ Treasurer for many years and also served as a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner.
A skilled carpenter, Mr. Kellum was employed in the construction industry through most of his life, he served as a deputy sheriff ,was also employed with the Cubicon Corporation and volunteered at the Walnut Branch Good Samaritan Center.
Mr. Kellum will be be remembered for his humor and was often ready with a humorous response to any question or situation. His passion was gardening and his gardens were almost a beautiful work of art. He continued to garden into his 80’s where he planted and gathered produce to share with others.
Visitation for Mr. Kellum will be from 12 Noon to 2 PM Tuesday, December 27 at The Ripley Funeral Home.
Memories will continue to be shared by his son, Joe Kellum (Cynthia) of Ripley, one granddaughter, Crystal Wilkins (Nathan) of Ripley and two great grandsons, Joey and Jacob Wilkins.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lois Thrasher Kellum and three sisters, Nellie Mattox (Winfred), Pearl Gurley (Joe) and Bernice Lancaster (Roy).
