J.S. Rhodes Jr. – Obituary

Mr. J.S. Rhodes Jr., age 101, of Florence, died Thursday, May 15, 2014. Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. today at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral will be after visitation at the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Rhodesville Cemetery. Officiating the service will be the Rev. Kenny Windsor. 

J.S. was born in Lauderdale County on Oct. 1, 1912. He was a devoted Christian and member of Oakland United Methodist Church. He loved cutting grass and sitting on the porch enjoying the sunshine. He loved talking to people about his long and happy life. J.S. was a loving husband, father, and granddaddy, who will be missed by all. 

J.S. was preceded in death by his wife, Mozelle Rhodes, father, John Rhodes, mother, Lily McKelvey Rhodes, sisters, Maureen Pitman, Juanita Thornton, and Mary Dixie Harris, and brothers, Buford Rhodes, Harold Rhodes, Roy Rhodes, Ralph Rhodes, Horace Rhodes, and Kenneth Rhodes. 

He is survived by his two sons, Dwane Rhodes (Janice) and Gerald Rhodes; three grandchildren, Sam Rhodes (Lisa), Christy Johnson (Glenn), and Chris Rhodes; and six great-grandchildren, Kathryn Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Luke Johnson, Tyler Rhodes, Maegan Rice, and Justin Rice. 

Pallbearers will be Matthew Johnson, Luke Johnson, Tyler Rhodes, Justin Rice, Steve Rhodes, and Tony Thornton. 

Special thanks to the nurses of Southern Care and caregivers at station three at Mitchell-Hollingsworth.
