J. R. Hood, age 77, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025. He was born on January 28, 1948, to Beatrice Montgomery Hood and Haskell Henry Hood.
J. R. was a wonderful man. He lived a life of simple pleasures: hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was always very proud of his garden, telling everyone who visited and passed by his house about it. He was always one step ahead, even having a well for his garden so he could continue to water it through droughts. His bounty from his garden was never turned for profit; he always gave his produce lovingly to people around him. He was a lifelong salesman, retiring as a Rainbow distributor. He was a lover of dogs, being very involved in canine rescues.
He is survived by his son, Wade Hood and his wife, Leigh, of Booneville; granddaughter, Abby Clark and her husband, Jackson, of Louisville; siblings, Francis Williams of Tupelo, Martha Hood Foster of Mooreville, and Eva Dunn of Nashville, Tennessee; Uncle, Wayne Hood of Tupelo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Beatrice and Haskell; brothers, James Hood, Harrison Hood, Phillip Hood, and Jessie Hood; and sister, Virginia Dickey.
Visitation will be 12 until 2 p.m. Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Pegues, Tupelo. Private burial will follow at Union Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your local animal shelter.
