Funeral Services for Mr. J.R. Hines, age 63 of Ashland, will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Bro. Richie Farrow and Bro. Jason Watkins officiating. Burial will follow at Hills Memory Gardens.
Mr. Hines passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at UAB Hospital. Born in Chicago, he spent most of his life in Clay County. J.R. worked as a carpenter and mechanic for many years. He enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, singing country music, drinking and having a good time. J.R. would help anyone and was simple to please. He loved his family; they were the most important thing to him. J.R. was a proud Pawpaw, a loving daddy and loved his dog, Hank.
Mr. Hines is survived by three daughters, Phyla Hulett (Jason) of Lineville, Valerie Callahan (Zach) of Ashland and Carolyn Hines (Christian) of Dadeville, seven grandchildren, Breann Patterson, Gage Hulett, Alissa Flowers (Dawson), Ryder Callahan, Bentley Hines, Lane Callahan and Jayme Bowman, three sisters, Pam Wallace (Rod) of Florence, Carolyn Sellari (Sean) of Waynesboro, VA and Tammy Barden of Florence, four brothers, Justin Smith (Teresa) of Florence, John Smith (Carrie) of Lawrenceburg, TN, Billy Joe Hines of Arkansas and Charles Lash of Mobile, a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty Lash and his brother, Mike Cole.
Active Pallbearers will be Michael Thompson, Ryan Sexton, Rodney, Petey Benefield, Dawson Flowers and Payton Hill.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and until service time Sunday at 2:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, donations towards the funeral expense are accepted.
