J. L. Pearce, 81, of Huntsville, passed away Saturday. J. L. served in the Army, worked for Huntsville Fire & Rescue for 35 years, owned a Texaco station and worked his farm. He loved to fish, garden and spend time with his family. Some of the family’s favorite memories include summer bar-b-cues, working on the farm, and lots of laughter around family meals.
He was preceded in death by his parents: William Wesley and Edith Sneed Pierce; siblings: Floyd Pierce, William “Bill” Pierce, Edward “Shorty” Pierce, Birdie Pierce Tipton, Jean Pierce Hopkins, Jerry Wayne Pierce, Pauline Pierce Bright, Henry Pierce, and Ruthie Pierce; and grandchild: Samuel David Atnip.
J. L. is survived by his wife of 50 years: Lore Pearce; two sons: David (Karen) Pearce and Jeffrey (Lynn) Pearce; daughter: Christina (Mike) Atnip; seven grandchildren: Joshua Atnip, Caleb (Savannah) Atnip, Phillip Pearce, Heather Pearce, Jacob Pearce, Austin Pearce, and Andrew Atnip; siblings: Carl Pierce, Marshall Pierce, and Linda Pierce McBride; sisters-in-law: Kathleen Pierce, Carol Olsen, and Ruth Morgan; brother-in-law: Jimmy McBride; and several nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons that he loved: Joshua Atnip, Caleb Atnip, Phillip Pearce, Jacob Pearce, Austin Pearce, and Andrew Atnip. Pallbearers will be the Huntsville Fire and Rescue Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held Monday, May 23rd from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Berryhill Funeral Home. Chapel service will follow at 3:00 with Dr. Tommy Bolan officiating. Interment will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens with a “Firefighter’s Last Call”.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ali Hachem and all the staff at Cancer Center of Huntsville for the outstanding care Opa received over the past six years. For all the calls, food, text, prayers, love and support from family and friends, we are blessed! Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
