ATHENS-To help promote 200 years of history in Athens, a group of high school students grabbed cameras and created videos to highlight the city, its food, its music and more.
In May, the Youth Commission released a “Happy 200th Birthday Athens” video that included footage of the city, interviews with business owners, artists, and other citizens. Today (Wednesday, Aug. 23) the Youth Commission released “It’s Our 200th Birthday in Athens. Dine With Us!”
This group of students chose a food them and highlighted two iconic eateries in Athens, Dub’s Burgers and Kreme Delite, and a newer restaurant, Food Fite at Athens State University. The students conducted interviews, shot the footage and edited the video.
“The purpose of our Athens Mayor’s Youth Commission is to engage youth in our city and teach them about local government’s role and their role as citizens,” Mayor Ronnie Marks said. “Their bicentennial-themed videos give them the opportunity to learn about our city’s history, explore our city and help us promote our 200th birthday.”
Athens will turn 200 on Nov. 19, 2018.
