Isabel Rainer Hill

Isabel Rainer Hill, 100, of Huntsville, passed away Saturday. Isabel was born in Elba, AL to Estelle Blue and Osborne Rainer. She grew up in Montgomery with an active life, ballet lessons, horseback riding, and later golf, conversational French group, Junior League, and working with the Alabama Legislature when in session.

She graduated from Arlington Hall Junior College in Washington, DC, and then enrolled in the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and received an Arts and Science Degree. Mrs. Hill was voted a “Favorite on Campus” and belonged to Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

She married Dr. Hugh MacGuire and had four children. Isabel later married Colonel Glenn Hill and moved to Huntsville. She attended the University of Alabama in Huntsville and received degrees in French and Education. She was active in Alliance Francaise, Huntsville Art Guild, and Huntsville Symphony Guild. Isabel was a docent for the Museum of Art, and also enjoyed golf, swimming, and gardening. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include children, Dr. Rainer MacGuire (Roslyn), Cameron MacGuire (Susanne), Isabel Blue (Bill), and Dr. Stuart MacGuire (Dianne); 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and stepchildren, Clark Wakefield Hill (Julie), Lawrence Hill and Lee Hill Lowery.

A private graveside service will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church or Kindred Hospice.
