Mr. Irvin Lee Isbell, Sr.Irvin Lee Isbell, Sr., 66, of Athens, AL, passed away April 24, 2024, at home surrounded by family and friends.

Irvin was born May 25, 1957, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of the late Earvin and Cleoria Isbell. He was an only child. On June 6, 1981, he married his college sweetheart Janice Mitchell Isbell.

Irvin graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 1979 with a Bachelor’s in Biology. He also attended St. Louis Community College, Florissant Valley and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and later attended   Calhoun Community College to become a Registered Nurse (RN). Irvin worked in the medical field for 25+ years as a CNA, LPN, and RN. He also taught as an Adjunct Professor at Virginia College in Huntsville, Alabama.

Irvin volunteered work for several organizations which included: Missouri Chapter, Lupus Foundation of America; Boy Scouts Den Leader, Pershing Accelerated School; Parents/Teachers Association for several schools (Pershing Accelerated School, Central Catholic/St. Nicholas School, Holy Family Catholic School, and Johnson High School).

Mr. Isbell was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Mitchell Isbell.

Irvin is survived by his son, Irvin Lee Isbell Jr. and daughter-in-law, Breana Isbell of Athens, Alabama; eight grandchildren: Candace LeShay Isbell, Irvin Lee Isbell III, Immanuel Latrell Isbell, Ciara LeNae Isbell, Camille LeeAnn Isbell, Isaiah Lemuel Isbell, Isaac Lamar Townsend Isbell, and Celise LeBre’ Isbell. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Mr. Irvin Lee Isbell, Sr., will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 4, 2024 at the Royal Chapel of Memories (4315 Oakwood Avenue NW Huntsville, AL 35810) with Pastor Cathy Richardson officiating. Interment will be in the Oakwood Memorial Gardens. Mr. Isbell will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.

Public viewing will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2024 and 8:30 until 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 4, 2024 at the Royal Funeral Home.
