Irvin Floyd Himmel, 89, of Decatur, AL, went home to be with his Lord on June 3, 2019, with the love of his life standing by his side. His family will be receiving friends on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30p.m. at Somerville Road Church of Christ. The funeral service will begin at 3:30p.m. Burial will follow in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. He was born in Lorenzo, TX. A faithful preacher of the gospel of Christ and a diligent student of God’s Word, he spent his life in service to the Lord. He married the love of his life Doris Parker Himmel on June 23, 1950, and the two of them remained loyal to each other for over 68 years. He preached for Churches of Christ in Deland, FL, Jacksonville, FL, Richmond, VA, St. Louis, MO, Temple Terrace, FL, and Decatur, AL. He served as an elder at the Somerville Rd. Church of Christ for over 25 years. He was a man of quiet dignity and gentle humor who will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Delma Himmel, and brother, Carroll Himmel. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Sylvia(Al) Stephens, two sons, Frank(Sandy) Himmel, and Jeff(Sara), Himmel, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. The family requests contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley, whose care is very much appreciated. Roselawn Funeral Home is assisting the family.
