Graveside Funeral service and interment for Ira Jackson, 93, was held on Sunday, March 1, 2015 in Tyus Cemetery in Tyus-Carrollton, Georgia, with Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation was Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home.
Mr. Jackson died on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at The Terrace at Priceville. He was born August 22, 1921, in Carroll County, Georgia to the late Ira Barney Jackson, Sr. and Emory Orleana Morris Jackson. He was preceded in death by all of his siblings: Harvey, Alton Jackson, Cora Bell Nichols, Levi Jackson, Jeptha Jackson. He was also predeased by his wife of sixty years: Della Barr Jackson.
Upon graduation from high school, Ira joined the U.S. Army Air Corp and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. This lead to a life long interest in aviation, included writing a book about his experiences in World War II. He lived most of his life in Bowdon and Douglasville, Georgia where he retired from Lockheed. Ira was actively involved in volunteer work until the last few years of his life.
Ira is survived by his two children, Gynnie and her husband, Terry Moody and Alan and his wife, Tammie: five grandchildren: Clifton Moody and his wife, Suzanne, Neal Moody and his wife, Shirley, Emily Moody, Philip Jackson and his wife, Brittany, and David Jackson and his wife, Marie; three great grandchildren: Jackson, Waverley and Levi Moody.
