Mr. Ira Douglas “Doug” McCraw, age 87, died Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Magnolia Manor following an extended illness. He was a lifelong resident of Lee county, MS, born to the union of Benjamin F. and Lela Brazill McCraw. Doug married Edith “Joan” Frederick on August 17, 1956 and they made their home in the Palmetto community. He loved his country serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked more than twenty years as a Transport Driver employed by Faucet Petroleum and later served three terms as Deputy Sheriff employed by Lee County, MS. Doug was a longtime member of Palmetto Baptist Church. He was a craftsman, enjoyed all sports, especially NASCAR.
A celebration of life service will be at 2 PM, Thursday, January 3, 2019 in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Jimmy Webb officiating. Private burial will follow at Endville Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 12 noon to service time.
Survivors include Doug’s son, Mike McCraw and his wife Patti of Belden and his surviving Frederick family. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joan McCraw who died June 2, 2017; six siblings, Woodrow McCraw (Vivian), Bill McCraw (Margaret), Everette McCraw (Carolyn), Lillian Wilder (Robert), Anna Laura Hamblin (Iker), and Maxine Bowman (George).
Pallbearers will be his nephews and honorary pallbearers will be the outstanding staff and residents of Magnolia Manor.
