Funeral Services for Mrs. Ida Mae Kerr, age 94 of Ashland, will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Ben Rosser officiating. Burial will follow at the Clay County Memory Gardens. Her visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. until service time at 11:00 A.M.

Mrs. Kerr passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024 at the Clay County Nursing Home. She was a lifelong resident of Clay County, and out of school she began a cumulative career as a seamstress for Higgins Slacks for over 25 years. After she retired, she worked off and on as a personal caregiver for several people, assisting in cooking and housework. Mrs. Kerr enjoyed fishing, sewing and quilting, and doing crossword puzzles. She used to work hand in hand with her husband, Charlie by canning vegetables. He would tend to the garden, while Mrs. Ida and her children helped prep and can. Mrs. Kerr loved the feeling of helping others. Her beautiful smile lit up a room, and always tried to be a genuine friend to others. She loved to recollect on fond memories with her children, and loved playing dolls and just spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Kerr was a member at Lystra Baptist Church.

Mrs. Kerr is survived by two sons: Charles Michael “Mike” Kerr (Peggy) and Robert Randall “Randy” Kerr (Angelia), both of Ashland; her daughter in law, Jacque Kerr of Bentonville, AR; 6 grandchildren: Teresa Strange (Steven), Patricia Gortney (Bodie), Katrina Kennedy (Nick), Lonnie Mitchell (Ben), Courtney Killingsworth (Tye), and Carlie Kempf; her great-grandchildren: Aaron Gortney (Amber), Parick Gortney, Kyle Denney, Maeleigh and Jameson Kennedy, Remi and Cooper Killingsworth, Liam and Levi Kempf, and Emma, Hadley, and Fallon Mitchell; a close family friend, Brian Denney, plus several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Lonnie and Hettie Owens Pettus; her husband, Charlie Kerr; daughter, Martha Kerr Powell; son, Bill Kerr; grandson, Bradley Powell; seven sisters and two brothers.

Active Pallbearers will be Nick Kennedy, Brian Denney, Kyle Denney, Patrick Gortney, Aaron Gortney, and Bodie Gortney.
