Hubert Roland Braswell, 93, of Huntsville, Alabama, died July 24, 2025. He was born on a farm in Carroll County, Georgia to Hubert Chalmers Braswell and Ruby Daniell Braswell. He attended Carrollton, Georgia schools, West Georgia College, and received a degree in Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech. Later he received a master’s degree from the University of Alabama, Huntsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Margaret Samples Braswell, his infant brother, Eugene, and by his beautiful wife of 69 years, Sue Price Braswell. He is survived by his children, Pamela Sue Braswell, David Roland Braswell and his wife, Jennifer, John Gregory Braswell, and James Mark Braswell and his wife, Donna. Additionally, he is survived by five grandchildren (and spouses) and six great-grandchildren.

After a brief employment by Lockheed Aircraft Company, Marietta, Georgia, he was accepted into the Navy Officer Candidate School and received a commission in the Navy Civil Engineer Corps. Active duty included tours at Panama City, Florida, and Sabana Seca, Puerto Rico. He served in the active and then standby reserves for a total of 16 years.

Upon release from active duty, he was employed by Richards and Associates, Carrollton, Georgia, and by Brown Engineering Company, Huntsville, Alabama. In 1960, he was recruited by the U.S. Army Ballistic Missile Defense Organization to coordinate design of facilities in Los Angeles, California, to support testing of offensive and defensive weapon systems to be accomplished at Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands. He then assisted in establishment of the Kwajalein Missile Range and had responsibilities for operations and maintenance of that range for more than 20 years.

He was active in chapels or churches wherever he and his wife and children resided and held offices such as Sunday School Director and deacon.

He loved to travel with his wife, Sue, and friends to fish, especially in the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Guntersville, Alabama.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 10 in the chapel with Keith Hodges officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
