Hubert Lee Crow, Jr. – Obituary

Hubert Lee Crow, Jr., 82, of Athens, passed away on Nov. 6, 2017, after a long battle with cancer. “Pa” was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and after retiring from the Army Ballistic Missile Command as a price analyst, he owned Pablo’s on Market Bookstore with his wife, Carolyn. He was a 1959 graduate of Auburn University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. His love for Auburn continued throughout his life. He was a charter member of Central Church of Christ and served as an Elder. He travelled the world, but his favorite place to visit was “Camp Sandy Key” in Perdido Key, Florida. His family was the love of his life.

He is remembered with love by his devoted wife of 62 years, Carolyn Clark Crow; three daughters, Theresa Butler and husband, Mike, of Athens, Beth Scherff and husband, Al, of Athens, and Susan Gentry and husband, John, of Lookout Mountain, Georgia; one sister, Jane Starr and husband, Bill, of Evans, Georgia; grandchildren Meghan Butler, Betsy Dorminey and husband, Ryan, all of Athens, Lauren Globetti and husband, Joey, of Birmingham, Caroline Medlen and husband, Colby, Max Scherff and wife, Ellen, Lucy Scherff, all of Athens, and John Watterson Gentry, of Lookout Mountain, Georgia; one great-grandchild, Charlie Globetti, of Birmingham; and four nephews, David Starr and wife, Talina, of Cartersville, Georgia, Lee Starr, of Evans, Georgia, Dr. Mike Neeley and wife, Cindy, of Huntsville, and Bill Neeley and wife, Christy, of Seabrook, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Donna Mae Lindsay Crow and Hubert Lee Crow Sr.

Pallbearers will be Max Scherff, Ryan Dorminey, Colby Medlen, Joey Globetti, David Starr, Lee Starr, Dr. Mike Neeley and Lindsay Burgreen. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Butler, John Marshall Crutcher, Bob Gentry, Jim Henderson, Bill Hunt, Fred Martin, Sr., Carl Stil, Bill Ward, Tommy Woodroof and the “Good Ole Boys” of Florence, Alabama.

The service will be held at Central Church of Christ on Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, officiated by Kenny Baskins and Steven Stewart, with visitation at 10 a.m. and the funeral following at noon.

“Pa” Crow shared a special bond with his granddaughter, Meghan Butler. He would be pleased to have memorials made to Meals on Wheels of Decatur, where Meghan is an active volunteer. Meals on Wheels, C/o Cindy Anderson, 1909 Central Parkway Decatur, AL 35601.
