Hoyt Oron Smith, 85, of Toney, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2015, at his home in Toney, Alabama.
Born Wednesday, October 9, 1929 in Collinwood, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Clinton Wallace Smith and the late Irene Bell Smith. He was preceded in death by brother, Clinton Wallace Smith, Jr.
He was a life-long resident of the North Alabama area and was a member of Concord Baptist Church and served as a deacon for over fifty years in various churches. He was employed by 3M Company for thirty plus years in various locations and retired from the Decatur plant in 1993. He was very involved in church and civic activities. He was the past chapter president, past Alabama state president, and was a National Color Guard Medal recipient of the Sons of
the American Revolution.
Surviving are wife, Christine W. Smith, Toney, AL; sons, Mike Smith of Toney, AL, George Allen (Joy) Smith of Toney, AL and James Walter Smith of Toney, AL; daughters, Judy Gochenour of Ardmore, TN and Jacque L. (Scott) Hill of Toney, AL; seventeen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, AL with Bro. Lynn Marshall, Bro. Ray Stonecypher, and Bro. Randy Watts officiating. Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery, Ardmore, AL.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Ardmore, Alabama, AL.
