Howard John Blood Howard John Blood, of Huntsville, passed away at home on October 23rd surrounded by his family. Howard celebrated his 85th birthday in April.

Originally from Geneva, NY, Howard was a graduate of Syracuse University where he completed his degree in Industrial Engineering. Upon graduating college, he worked for Chrysler in Detroit, MI. It was there that he met and married his bride, Gloria. Together they moved to Huntsville where he continued to work as an executive for Chrysler and SAIC for many years.

In his retirement, he was a volunteer with the Friends of the Library bookstore and enjoyed teaching courses on genealogy at UAH.

An avid reader, Howard’s collection of books spanned many rooms in his home. His favorite subjects ranged from genealogy to history to photography. Howard was a member of MENSA and his gentle wisdom and quick wit were present in all things he did. He was very active in the lives of his children and grandchildren and enjoyed sharing with them his love of books, learning, and classic cars.

He is survived by his dear wife of 63 years, Gloria; his two children, Bonnie Smith and husband, Larry, and Bob Blood; grandchildren, Sara Blood Foote and husband, Larry, Tim Smith and wife, Kelli, and Daniel Smith; and great-grandchildren, Rya and River Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret Alice and Howard Earl Blood and daughter-in-law, Kathy Blood.

Visitation will be from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Sunday, October 25 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at noon at Maple Hill Cemetery.
