Hoke Smith Bonner, Jr., age 94, was born on February 16, 1932, and passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hoke Bonner, Sr. and Viola Higgins; his beloved wife, Maggie Bonner; his daughter, Maggie “Sugar” Wages; his son, Hoke Bonner III; and two grandchildren, April Bonner and Misty Cooper.
Hoke proudly served his country as a United States Army paratrooper during the Korean War. During his time in service, he earned numerous medals and accolades, a testament to his bravery, dedication, and commitment to his country.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Hazel “Ting” Bonner; his grandson, Todd Jones; and his granddaughters, Candace Rhule, Tabby McDonald, and Natalie Choran. He also leaves behind his brother, Willie Bonner, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition, he leaves a legacy of love through his nine grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will cherish his memory.
Hoke lived a long and meaningful life defined by strength, service, and devotion to his family. He will be remembered for his courage, his love for those closest to him, and the lasting impression he left on everyone who knew him.
His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
