hettieHettie Nadine Marks Moore passed away on Monday, June 13, 2016, at Mitchell Hollingsworth Nursing Home in Florence, Alabama.

Nadine was a Florence native born on Aug. 5, 1928, the eldest daughter of the late John Emmett Marks and Annie Pauline Marks. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Durward Alston Moore, and half sisters, Helen Marks Butler, Lillian Marks Alexander and Mary Elizabeth Marks Burleson.

Nadine is survived by her younger sister, Eleanor Marks Sharp, and her children, Michael Arthur Moore (Stephanie), Birmingham, Alabama, Anne Moore Smith (Wade), Covington, Georgia, and Karen Moore West (Doug), of Sheffield, Alabama. In addition, she had eight grandchildren, Nathaniel Alston Collum (Meghan), Drew Hamilton Smith, Lara West Ambrose (Mel), Cameron Alexander Smith, Emily West Hare (Cliff), Abigail Celine Moore, Elizabeth Boêté Smith, Michael Patrick Moore, and one great-grandchild, Olivia Moonan Collum. Mrs. Moore was a faithful member of Underwood Heights Church of Christ.

Nadine graduated from Central High School in 1946 and attended secretarial school after high school. Upon graduation, she worked for the Bureau of Public Roads in the local (Florence) office as they worked to complete the local section of the Natchez Trace Parkway. After leaving the bureau, she went to work for the Social Security Administration Board of Hearings and Appeals and worked with locally assigned federal judges as they reviewed/heard disability appeals cases. She retired in 1989 and began her own consulting business representing claimants appearing before the Social Security Board of Hearings and Appeals.

Nadine had many interests. She was an excellent cook and an extraordinary seamstress. She also loved quilting, and she was a member of the local quilting guild, the Batting Brigade. She also volunteered at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital before her health began to fail.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 19, 1:30 to 3 p.m., followed by services at 3 p.m. at Greenview. Pallbearers are Charles Alexander, Jerry Alexander, Randall Sharp, Michael Patrick Moore, Trent Butler, and Clifford Hare. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Jackson, Jim Jackson, Jon Jackson, and Jay Jackson.
